Pitch In and Help Out

Stop 2022

Due to COVID-19, learners among others, have difficulty coping the challenges brought about by this pandemic. Yes, it has been almost two years, and its aftermath is wreaking havoc to fun learning among learners who belong to the least, lost and left out.

In my blended class, for example, less than half of my 38 learners have this Android cellphone; thus, lots of them could not join our Google meet session. Yes, this situation calls for me to think of solution to this problem, considering that some my learners are having parents who either out of job, could not afford one or any other reasons they might have.

Even if a child is having eagerness to learn through a half-day online a week class just to have a feel of being with his/her co-online learners, if there is no available Android cellphone around, it really saddening to the child. While other of his/her synchronously abled learning mates are having fun and meaningful engagements through these educational technologies like iPad, desktop, lappie or what, a mere cellphone he/she does not have any.

Yes, either such is being used by one of his/her parents, siblings or what, having the chance to join online class or just “Online Kumustahan” or simply Monday Morning Prayer and National Anthem ceremonies, becomes a tedious one. Added to this kind of problem is the internet connection, either insufficient load or low internet connectivity does happen, not just once but always. Given the fact Philippines has one of the slowest internet speed in the world.

Had a survey on this and my learners with the most challenged situation are really in need of help. Since I believe that there is always a way to the highway, pun intended, we, my colleagues have to do something out of this challenge.

We, then, asked around for old cellphone unit any members of the community could have one not in used, they might as well, donate such to the kids. Well, as of this writing, we are still awaiting for benevolent donors to give hope to these kids and who knows, someday, these kids could pay it forward and do same act of kindness to others in need of help.

It’s a cliche that it takes a village to educate a child; but, it is also a good chance to act for their own welfare, more so, this time of pandemic, wherein real heroes prevail.

This pandemic has brought us to a phase where everyone can either be kind or unkind, helpful or selfish, sympathetic or indifferent, giver or hoarder, among others. Which one do you think is more appropriate a behavior one should observe and be sane and sound and saint? Simple, right?

Giving is second nature to those who had been helped out by those around during their most trying times. Paying it forward, easier to do, the good deeds done to them by “Good Samaritans” around who are more than willing to extend help to those who are least, lost and left out. Yes, like these kids are.

Well, if you are interested to donate your old cellphone for these kids, for their online or blended classes, don’t hesitate to drop by our school and see how you could pitch in and help out.
